How are officiants vetted before they're listed?
Every listed officiant is tied to a real, current credential. Authorization to solemnize marriages in Nevada runs through the Clerk's $55 Certificate of Permission to Perform Marriages and the Nevada Secretary of State officiant database. Permanent certificate holders clear a background check as part of that process. The directory's verified badge reflects that real-world authorization, it isn't a label anyone can self-apply.
Does it cost officiants money to be listed?
The goal is to make a basic, verified listing accessible, the point is to help credentialed celebrants get discovered on merit, not to gatekeep behind a fee. Specific terms would be set within the Clerk's lawful authority and applicable Nevada law. What we will not do is sell ranking: no officiant can pay to be ranked above a better fit for the couple.
Are religious and secular officiants treated equally?
Yes. Listings are neutral and merit-first. A Catholic priest, a rabbi, an imam, a humanist celebrant, and an Elvis tribute officiant all stand on equal footing. How does the matching actually rank officiants?
Ranking is driven by fit and quality: how well an officiant matches the couple's stated preferences (language, faith or secular, location, date, price, style), their verified credential status, and verified past-couple reviews. It is explicitly not driven by ad spend. There is no pay-to-win ranking, a great fit for your ceremony rises to the top because it fits, not because it paid.
What about my privacy as a couple?
Privacy is built in. You share only the preferences needed to match you well, and that information is used to find fitting celebrants, not to flood you with marketing. Personal data is minimized by default and handled with care, consistent with applicable law. You stay in control of what you share and with whom.
Can out-of-town or destination officiants join?
If an officiant is properly authorized to solemnize marriages in Nevada, through the Clerk's certificate and the Secretary of State's process, they can be listed and matched, including celebrants who travel in for destination weddings. The credential is what matters, and the verified badge reflects it regardless of where the officiant is based.
Does this replace chapels, planners, or marketplaces?
No, it complements them. Chapels and planners can use the verified directory to source and confirm credentialed celebrants, and independent officiants who already work with marketplaces can also be discoverable here.
